By now I’m sure you know that on February 9th I retired from my position as the Head Football Coach at the University of Charleston. We had a great run there setting records and more importantly developing young men. I’ve never been good at horn tooting but we won more games in six years than any other six year period in the school history. But I’m proud of the way we ran the program stressing values and virtues. When we came to UC the team GPA was a 1.6 when we left it was a 2.9. We had 17 of the 22 male honor society athletes at UC. I’m proud of the fact we achieved academic excellence while setting on field records.
I was blessed with a great staff. Ralph Isernia my offensive coordinator for six years was as good a coach as I have been around. Ralph coached the O. line and also served as my recruiting coordinator. I pushed for Ralph to take over for me but the Administration did not see it my way. The President, the AD/Baseball coach, the asst. AD/volleyball coach and the Provost in her first year at the school chose someone else. Ralph will land on his feet and be a tremendous asset wherever he goes. I had other outstanding assistants that were excellent coaches as well. Those of you that attended our clinics certainly could see how blessed I was.
Now that I have more time on my hands, I plan on spending more time with my grand children and more time on this website. There won’t be any more Tony DeMeo Football Clinics at the University of Charleston; however I will increase my speaking schedule next year.
