How to fail

If you want to make sure people fail, put them in positions they are incapable of operating from.

You can give them tasks they don’t have the skill sets to accomplish.

You can ask them to use their experience that they don’t have.

You can force them to work with people they aren’t capable of working with.

The good news is you can also set people to succeed by putting them in positions they are capable of operating from.

You can give them tasks they have the skill sets to accomplish.

You can surround them with people that complement their work.

In many cases people fail because they were set up to fail or they succeed because they were set up to succeed. As managers, we have to take some responsibility for these successes and failures.
