Resolving conflict

I was talking to a friend the other day and he explained that he had a simple way to resolve conflict at a previous job as an HR director.  His solution was quite simple.  He told both sides that if they can’t get the issue resolved, they would both be fired.  Knowing the starting point, the people quickly realize getting a good solution is the objective because “winning” in a way that doesn’t get a resolution means both sides lose.

When both sides are working toward a common goal as opposed to both sides working toward different goals can make all of the difference in the world.
